Anyone else create a version of their own? Let's see it!

Never finished it, I kinda just made it to test some other ideas and concepts.

i've always thought a "here's some media, make a game" challenge would be fun but when i see media uploaded like that, i need to ask if you have the right to distribute it (since i see no license but a reference to another site in the .png)?

If that's the case, here's some asteroids folks are welcome to use royalty free. I created these myself a long time ago, y'all have permission.

so, i should have some time (seeing how there is no deadline?)

progress:

i've put some of ando's sprites to work today and made a few SFX for this thanks to jsfxr.

it would be interesting to see people putting their own twist on the asteroids game

it'll be a little twisted

ADD: HTML Version to wet your whistle. i'd call it 75% done where i will be adding ando's alien dust pirate and maybe a timer to add a little sweat

so, who's working on this? if i'm not the only one, we should set a deadline.

I started working on one, built on a previously unfinished project.

I made something that's kinda based on asteroids.

If you give it a test run, let me know if you find any major bugs.

Cheers

i played the included exe and found a nice twist on the classic (and no bugs).

my most-appreciated feature/effect is the player explosion (which i insisted on seeing over and over ).

a couple of days left to work on it but it's already good fun.

1 request if you find time:
+ Code Snippet
record high scores :)

nice work, ando.

add: i went back in and tried compiling for myself and received:
+ Code Snippet
Error: Failed to create image , width and height must be a power of 2 when using mipmapping in main.agc at line 21

the original exe was ~9MB IIRC while my classic compile is ~7. was yours compiled on studio?

more: so, it compiled fine in Studio and HAS SOUND & MUSIC that the exe in your initial post didnt have. so, now even more fun

That made me laugh out loud. I have also tested that feature almost as much as the bullets.

I will take a look at load/save hi scores but it's been many years since I've done that stuff.
The forum will likely have some examples so I will have a dig around. (I think I've said that before, I do need to learn to do that in Studio.)

I compiled with Studio and I don't have classic. I don't know about the sound issue coz it works fine for me.
I also downloaded the zip and the sound works for me. ??
Cheers

one example

Thanks for the load/save example VN.
I think I got it working pretty good.
Don't know if I will have time to make it purdy but I'm glad I got through that battle.
Will come in handy for many projects.

I may have given you a brief mention on the title screen.

So here is my latest version.

LOL!!! I tested the online version of Asteroid before I realized what you called it! Sounds like a health issue....

Here's a still yet unfinished game. Tried to finish up tonight but ended up spending most of my time refactoring the spaghetti code cause I had no real plan when I started.
Highly encourage using chrome(chromium, brave, etc) to play because FF has abysmal performance (almost half the frame rate). Game was designed around a 60 frame rate.

Arrows keys to move, space to shoot. Because it's a demo, you can try the different types of guns (hit 1 or 2 to change). The laser will eventually have a limited use as right now it's absurdly OP. The laser does double damage, which is both good and bad. You get points for hitting the rocks, so if you destroy it in fewer hits thats less points. But the laser is an instant line of sight shot. It's quicker rate of fire allows you to potentially hit more rocks consecutively resulting in greater bonuses.

so, a bit jealous with both your debris effects, i added some of my own here in the 11th hour

i know i said Voting would be limited to those in the thread but if you both agree, i'll start a Submission thread and ask others to vote, as well? as it's a challenge, part of me wants to keep with tradition but think others might appreciate being in on it?

in the meantime, enjoy your shiny new badges as you both deserve them!

Seeing the variety we've come up with and i wonder how many others are out there where the simple premise has inspired countless others in the past ~45 years!

when i can participate, these challenges are always fun. thanks for joining in on it, guys

Just wish I had the same time to dedicate as I did 20 years ago. We did have quite the challenge group a long time ago, miss those.
The old challenges can always be revisited
