New to AppGameKit and needing to get another platform for testing against the iPhone

Suggestions? Ideally something off FeeBay which is the best 'bang for buck'

Natually 2.3.x minimum but then what? resolution? processor speed? 7' or 10' etc

Cheers

I'd say the Galaxy Family Tablet. Cheaper than most tablets and gives you the most bang for your buck.

I think it depends on your budget and the type of resources you're planning to use. For example, you can find 7" Android tablets around $200 (Amazon Fire and Kobo Vox to mention more trustworthy provider), but they don't have camera for example.

Galaxy Tab are more expensive, but more powerful and have richer features.

I saw an Acer 7" for about $300 the other day, can't recall where. Other than that I'd say the Amazon Fire, but personally I would wait till it comes out to see how developer friendly it will be (eg sideloading apps without much hassle)

Thank you all for you responses - looks like the Amazon Fire could be the winner.

For the sake of throwing it out there - what about this = http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Google-Android-2-3-10-2-Touchscreen-Tablet-PC-4GB-/270807540780?pt=US_Tablets&hash=item3f0d63242c

...seems to cover reasonable specs,os version, camera, etc or is this just cheap China beware type of purchase?

That listing has many, many things wrong with it, I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

For simple compatibility reasons, the one Paul is using is the Storage Options Scroll 52577 which uses the 2.3 OS you need, though it can be a little slow for a tablet despite the 1Ghz processor. It's a good price too.

Thanks for everyone input. Decided to listen to the advise and get a decent device from day one and not cheap Chinese trouble.

Have ended up buying a ASUS EeePad Transformer running Honeycomb 3.2 with docking station etc. Should receive in a week or so...

Will this work with AppGameKit? is Honeycomb supported?

Should work, I have a Tab 10.1 running 3.0 and it does. Be sure to check the Android Player sticky thread if you do run into any issues.

Not sure if it is available everywhere, but Kobo Vox is now available for US$199. http://www.kobo.com/ereaders/kobo-vox.html

And you have cool bright colours to choose from

Great to see Android developers in the room! We're seeing amazing things coming from the Android universe and we hope to furnish you with a very strong Android presence moving forward.

I'm going to get the Tegra 3 Transformer Prime in xmas.

I guess since AppGameKit is oGL based, we will automatically get an unlimited number of large sized sprites moving at 60fps on this tablet right?!!

I have a Toshiba Thrive, HTC Flyer, and Kindle Fire. My favorite is the Flyer. That 1.5Ghz SnapDragon processor is.. well.. snappy! I am personally not a fan of Tegra-2.

and Kindle Fire

How is the Kindle Fire, also does it not include the standard Android Market?

I have an Acer Iconia 500. It's a pretty nice piece of hardware.

The Kindle Fire will not have the Android Market. From what I have heard it's a little bit under powered compared to the rest. However Amazon will sell a ton of them and will need games.
Don't pass it up.
