This is a little tool to create PNG-fontmaps from fonts that are installed on your machine.
It's early beta and you might find several bugs (that you'll hopefully report ). This is Windows only but a Mac version will come soon(ish).

Beta 1
Initial public release

Beta 2
- "Save As" dialog implemented so you can specify where the font image is saved.
- character maps can be edited, saved and loaded now.
- Other small tweaks

Beta 3 Windows
- mainly bug fixes

Beta 3 for OS X
- initial public OS X release

Cool program. But where does it save the image file?

Edit: Found it. Saves on the root drive under the filename 'atest.png'.

Once developed this should be packed in an AppGameKit update as a utility.
Very handy.

Very nice program, empty. Messed around with it a bit to see if I could find any bugs for you and I came up with a few;

1. During the 'save as' prompt when you're asked to find a location to save your fontmap to, if you click 'cancel', the application freezes and needs to be ctrl+alt+del'ed to close.

2. When adding a black drop shadow to the font, the black drop shadow areas seem to become colorized and pixelated when the fontmap is loaded into GIMP. (This didn't occur for me when using other drop shadow colors). Maybe a png issue with black/transparency?

Thanks for testing

1. Yes, that's correct. Will fix it for the next release
2. That's very odd. Will have to look into this.

I'm just seeing a white background, no transparency.

If you're opening with Windows Photo Gallery, you won't see the transparency. Try opening it in an image program, or just grab the thumbnail and put it on your desktop on an area where the background isn't white; then you should be able to see weather or not it's transparent.

Well, actually I opened it in Irfanview, which handles .png transparency just fine.

But I just re-downloaded the latest beta and the transparency is fine, so I may have been using an earlier version.

EDIT: Also, I am seeing the glitch with the black shadow having some fringing and color change.

Beta 3

Mainly bug fixes.
The next version will make use of a different rendering method, that is more flexible in terms of effects and quality.

You're getting closer, but...

This is Verdana, at rendered font size 44...

Also, the created .png files are WAY bigger than needed. What I mean is that there is a lot of unused blank area in the image. An empty row at the top, a lot of empty at the bottom, and lots of blank area to the right of the characters.

Really cool that you made an OSX version, I'm going load that up and take it for a test ride!

I'm about to change the rendering method that eliminates issues like the one you brought up. It will be available with the coming updates.

Yes the calculation is not optimized yet. This will also work better with the new rendering method.

could it be possible to have border around the text and change the colours of the text, and what would be brill is if we could texture the fonts.

Thanks for writing this app. its going to be a HUGE help.

I'm having a bit of trouble with it though . . . hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction.

I'm running windows 7 sp1 x64.

When I generate my font map the color I've select doesn't seem to apply. It's always white. Lowercase letters such as y a j get cut off at the bottom when displaying in AGK. They look normal in the generated png file.

Any thoughts on this one? Thanks!
