I use Vista Home Premium and those suggestions work for me. Will it work if you change the created file path to another already existing directory?

Vista has some funny ideas about where you are not allowed to write or create files.

It will work fine if you create a new project based in your documents directory. There are no file writing limitations here.

Yeah, and adding to John Y suggestion, i suggest you create an alternative program files location, like "c:\alternative" and install your most used programs there, so you don't have to enable administrative privileges for each one of them (of course, considering you have such privileges to do so).

2 things:

1) you need certain directx 9 dlls which I have uploaded in the link below.

2) run dark basic pro in admin mode. (right click on the exe/shortcut and say "run as administrator".) You can also go to properties and make it so that that shortcut/exe always run in administrator mode.

Vista sucks. You are a fool to accept it in its current, frankly diabolical, state. Large amounts of incompatabillity, overkill security and a slower system.

vista does not suck, you just don't have a clue what you're doing

I've got an uncle who recently purchased a PC with Vista locked onto it. Populous 3, an absolute classic, freezes frequently, Nero 6 won't do anything, Windows Media Player refuses to play DVDs at all (not that it was any good anyway) and none of his music software will run. (He used to be a semi-amateur, semi-professional musician.) Not to mention it has a completely reorganized menu system that is in no way necessary or easier to use. I expect background to be in Display Properties, where it's always been, not stuffed in the User Settings.

It's called progress.

It certainly isn't called progress...Vista is a real disappointment from Microsoft.

Vista may eventually be the future Windows OS, but it was not ready for prime time when they released it, and certainly isn't worth upgrading from XP to Vista.

Vista is not as good as Windows XP yet, hopefully it will be in the future, and very soon I hope.

Vista:
1) Less compatible than XP, shame on Microsoft.
2) Slower OS than XP, needs tweaks for better speed and driver support.
3) Driver problems - don't get me started there
4) Microsoft should feel embarrassed about the MILLIONS of man hours, and BILLIONS of dollars spent not getting Vista to be better than it was when they released it, several years late.
