If this is done, I would be so much more inclined to get X10. I would rather use linux any day then have to face the dreaded viruses, trojans, spyware, malware, and adware that is windows. I don't know the difference really, but OpenGL and DirectX seem very similar. I do know it would require basically a rewrite of the entire engine, but, it's just a thought.

(And TGC, Imagine if it WAS cross-platform! So much more money! (That's my sorry attempt at persuading them ))

something tells me it won't,seeing as its titled x10. The x10 stands for directx 10. So...I'm about 99% sure they won't.

I realize they probably won't, but I think it would be a nice feature, instead of attempting to get wine (WINdowsEmulator) to run it...
Posted: 20th Jun 2007 8:35
good luck with that, because apparently wine doesn't even run dx9 at its fullest.
Posted: 20th Jun 2007 8:37
I would still be extremely happy if they did though... as I said, I can barely stand windows... I have to reinstall it at least every other month... which is not good....
Posted: 20th Jun 2007 8:37
You are correct. Wine runs the very first release of direct x 9, so it has very limited features.

I have to reinstall it at least every other month... which is not good....

That would be your fault. Just take better care of your computer.
Posted: 20th Jun 2007 8:39
I guess I (could) SHOULD do that... but linux is still more appealing to my eyes

Avast! + AVG + Zone Alarm and some spyware protection and malware protection programs and unothing will infected in your computer..

It will be direct x only but maybe Lee will concider a Linux cross-compatible basic languge one day when XNA starts to eat into his market

I would buy it for sure. I see the Linux desktop as the future now they are starting to address making it easy for Joe Average to use.

OpenGL and DX are completely different animals. I've lost count of the number of times this question pops up. Basically, if you find a language that uses DX on the windows platform, FORGET ever using it in Linux or on a Mac - it's just probably not gonna happen .

There are cross-platform languages out there like PureBasic, but writing a game in PB compared to DBPro is like, well cooking a meal (PB) against eating a meal (DBPro).

easy linux = http://www.ubuntu.com

Dell have started to sell PCs with the OS pre-installed. I hope it grows and more suppliers of PCs take it up http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/linux_3x?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

I'd rather not send MS $100 everytime I buy a new PC, give us a choice at least!

Don't say Apple it's part owned by Billy gates and it's run by his bezzy mate Steve Jobs so it's hardly competition

djchaos,

you might want to remove that link as it refers to stuff that you are not aloud to talk about here.

Lay off the porn sites and pirated software buddy.

As for DBP working on Linux... This will never happen. I would LOVE to be proven wrong, because I love Linux, but it just won't happen.

It may happen if some people get together and integrate full support for all recent versions of DirectX for linux. So it's theoretically possible, but not probable to be made possible. Maybe if all the linux gurus around here do it..
