Hi, I just bought another computer and was sort of, well more like, really forced to get Vista...

After everything is sorted out well, it is sort of not to bad, I guess.

Directx 10 is now installed on it. And it looks like the only way to go to get Dark Basic Pro working on it is to install DX9.0c.

So I am wondering if there is anything I should be aware of since I have DX 10 installed, in rolling back Direct X to 9.0c?

I understand that some Vista systems came with 9.0x?

Anyways, also, is there any time soon that DarkBasic Pro will be able to run dx9.0c files using dx 10?

I mean, isn't it possible to just have a patch to detect 10 and still run with the 9.0c perameters?

I want to install 9.0c, but I am just waiting for the heads up on any problems with this...

Thanks much for any advice!

Probably not, as they would practically have to re-write the entire program, which they have and is called Darkbasic professional X10.

it is my understanding that dx10 is radically different than dx9 so probably not until the rumored DX9.0L is released.

Don't worry, you won't be 'rolling back' to DirectX 9.0c - you will still have DirectX 10 on the machine as they seem to quite happily coexist. This is really an example of how different they are.
I have had to install DX9.0c on a Vista machine which only came with DX10 installed and it went very smoothly. Your best bet is to go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/
and install it from there as it will detect what you have and install what is needed. If you have problems you can download the entire redistributable package (44Mb Feb 2007 release) from here:

The directX setup wouldn't put 9.0 stuff on my machine because of directx 10. But, see this thread here and look for my name. I was able to copy the dlls I needed from another vista box where it did work. I uploaded the DLLs you need.

Actually yes, directx10 isn't compatible with dx9 applications. But it uses dx9 API to be able to run them. So in short, you don't have to worry about your dx9 applications not running on dx10 hardware. More info here:
