I would like to add solutions to 2 Vista problems that had me stumped for months:
1) never return a string variable in quotes in an endfunction or exitfunction command. You must always predefine the string before you return it.
2) use Windows 98 compatibility mode. It's the only way my game works.

2) use Windows 98 compatibility mode. It's the only way my game works.

Then there must be something wrong with your PC. Running Vista (and 7 duoboot, but does'nt matter) and everything runs fine without any compatability mode.

I've tested it in windows 7 Release Candidate 1 with latest updates and it works perfectly

Works perfectly with the Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) RTM. None of the above compatibility stuff was needed.

Windows 7 seems to be a much more solid platform then Vista started out to be.

Just wondering if TGC ever plan to make their products compatible with Vista/7 by default rather than requiring user intervention?

suggest that you add Dark Shader as "works without anything extra" and Dark Lights works in Win98 Compatability mode (not XP mode) as this is the case for me & my vista 64 system.

I would also like to confirm that the eXtends Plugin is not compatible with windows vista (64 bit). I get the same crashes are reported by the other users.

advising the users of my programs to run them in windows98 compatibility mode is really not a very good work around. i will rather just not use the plugin anymore in case the bugs are not being fixed.

as by Frédéric Cordier's website notice, he is has sold his property to the games creators and closed down his company.

I would like to ask someone from TGC, if there are plans to fix the bug in the eXtends library ?

Thanks.

@pgu :
Actual eXtends, 2DPluginKIT, PurePLUGIN and X-Quad Editor version are not 100% compatible with Windows VISTA and 7. (all always worked on my Vista PC but some users reported me these crashes.)
I'm working on an update compiled with latest PureBASIC build. It should fix issues with Windows VISTA because PureBASIC is now more compatible with it.
I can't give you any release date but it should come before the end of the year.
I'm working on this last release for eXtends, PurePLUGIN, 2DPluginKIT and X-Quad Editor with the latest PureBASIC build for each plugin. It should make'em'all more compatible with Windows VISTA. Concerning Windows 7 I can say nothing about compatibility.
This release will only be bugfix release

Feel free to send me any bug concerning eXtends, 2DPluginKIT, PurePLUGIN and X-Quad Editor at support (at ) odyssey-creators (dot ) com and I'll add it in my TO DO LIST for this last release.

Kindest Regards,
Frédéric Cordier

Hello

I have just installed the DBProfessional trial version on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine.

I followed the instructions at the top of the page, and I can now compile and run
+ Code Snippet
print "hello world"
wait key

but my editor still looks like the old one

should I be concerned about this?

Thanks in advance
Greg

There's a patch in users order histories that sorts out any Vista problems for DarkSHADER.

There used to be - but it's gone now.

Update:

In desperation I have registered my CD version of Darkbasic Professional with a free activation code from the Free version offer. I have no problems creating and testing games of my own, but whenever I try to run a exe game file made by someone else, there is invariably a line of code apparently missing and the exe file refuses to run.

Furthermore, I have followed all of the above steps to ensure compatability, and even with DirectX 9.0 and having installed all of the updates to Darkbasic Professional it still refuses to switch to the new interpreter layout (picture B). What can I do about these problems?

I have since contacted the original owner of the CD and they will be providing me with the original activation code as TGC are going to transfer his purchase details to my account.

I know it's not strictly the appropriate forum but I'm getting severely desperate here. I know the free activation key was a stupid thing to do but I'm desperate to get started and now regret getting involved at all at this stage. Please help!
